How to clean a vintage Western knife?
I have a vintage Western knife that belonged to my grandpa that is similar to this, just a different image etched in. http://store.leescutlery.com/viwesphetfok.html
Over the years it has accumulated some sort of green corrosion on the metal parts (not the blade.) It was stored in the leather case.
What can I use to remove this green stuff?
try some warm soapy water and an old toothbrush. Polishing or aggressive cleaning removes the nice patina that it would have accumulated over the years, and if it has wood or bone on the handle, it could be damaged with harsh chemicals.
Make sure you dry it completely when you’re done and give it a very light wipedown with a bit of light houshold oil on a rag (WD-40 or 3-1 oil)
