Proper Ways Of Maintaining And Storing Your Leatherwear
The way you care for your leatherwear will tell how long it’s going to be around for you to enjoy. You want your items to last as they never go out of fashion. And at the same time they cost you a fortune to get a hold of them! The following are ways to care for some common leatherwear.
When storing your leather jacket, use wide and padded hangers to retain its shape. If it becomes wet, simply let it air dry. Refrain from storing it in hot and humid areas. Applying protective spray on it before wearing it outside is for the same reason bb cream is applied to the face.
Leather pants are particularly susceptible to wearing away. That’s why it’s important to apply your pair with a layer of protective spray. Keep them away from getting in contact with any fluids. But in any case, quickly use a dry rag or towel to dry them. Let it air dry. Never hang your pants next to a heater or under the sun to dry. Know that some stains can be permanent, like paint or ink.
Remove your leather watch when you sleep or take a bath so the strap could breathe. For daily cleaning, use a soft dry cloth. Once a week, however, wipe the strap with a damp cloth and leave to air dry. Follow it with an application of beeswax or any available protective wax for such strap. Some opt for a few drops of olive oil, followed by a polishing using cloth or shoe buff.
Store your leather belts hanging, with the buckle attached to a hook. Never store them rolled tightly or folded. Clean it with a dry cloth regularly. Once in a while, wipe it off with a damp cloth, followed a dry one, then let air dry. When thoroughly dry, apply conditioner or beeswax to prevent cracking and renew its color and luster.
Leather shoes can be very stylish, and at the same time very expensive. Regularly clean them with a dry cloth, followed by an application of beeswax. This will make the surface waterproof, and moisturized to delay cracking. You may also apply regular shoe-shine polish. Follow the application with a buffing of shoe brush or dry rag to make it shiny.
As with boots, it pays to know how to store them properly. For instance, your leather brown boots may develop creases or cracks with improper storing. Make sure you store them upright. Not horizontally, and definitely not with other items on top of it. Place water bottles, rolled up newspapers or any long cylindrical items inside them to make sure they stay upright.
